Dear Robert,

For those who like adventure:

There are only a three days left to sign up for our November 17, 2009 Lao - "Journey Back in Time" Tour at a price of $1095.  That's $300 off the regular price of $1395 for.  The offer is available to people receiving this Newsletter and those who are Far and Away Cycling "Facebook Fans".  The offer ends midnight January 31, 2009.

Here is what others have to say about Laos:

The Lonely Planet:

".....Southeast Asia's most pristine environment, intact cultures and quite possibly the most chilled-out people on earth....fast earning cult status among travelers.

The New York Times

"The Jewel of Southeast Asia"

We like Laos so much, we've put together our own little video.  We would like to express our thanks to the many, many people with whom we have had such great fun exploring this fantastic place over the years.   Turn on your speakers!  It's about 3 and 1/2 minutes long.  Click on the filmstrip.

Ron Shafer
The Lao Video is dedicated to Ron Shafer of Chatsworth IL, who passed away earlier this week.

"Uncle Ron" was always doing things that were intriguing and interesting:  he rode motor cycles all over the country, he made beautiful canoes out of wood in his garage and then raced them with his kids; he rode in Ragbrai (on an antique bike);  he made his own wine in the basement (some of which exploded);  in his backyard, he built a swing powered by a lawnmower engine that would whirl you in a circle at 35 mph at the end of a 15 foot chain (I will never forget this....it was awesome!); he built a GIGANTIC train set that filled his entire basement; he built his own car (a Bradley GT);  he made his own kitchen cabinets out of solid hunks of wood; he loved snow skiiing.  And this is only what I know about.

Ron had a zest for life and a spirit of adventure.  I think he would have loved this video.  He knew how to live life and I, along with many others, will miss him.
