Dear Robert,
We had a real time of it on the Asian tours. Our numbers were small which meant we could do it all. We had some unplanned kayaking, we ad-libbed the final section through the far north of Laos, we had some fine dining (and some not so fine) and some late nights (and late mornings). We learned to talk a little Lao and demonstrated some of the Kung Foo moves that Bounyang, our Lao guide, taught us for the local monks (you can see by their reaction above that they were mightily impressed). We had some non-ballroom dancing. We had hot water every nite save one. That omission was so late in the game no one really cared. Grace even had a fire in her room in Sapa (in the fireplace). If you haven't been following any of the proceedings, you can get more details and see some photos by clicking over to the Far and and Away Blog: ****
The Lao jerseys and "Free Burma" jackets have all been mailed out. They are nice! The sale of the jerseys raised a cool $1,000 for the new school in Vantang Village. Thank You! ****
Now is the time to think about commiting to a tour in 2008. The cost to cancel out of a tour is only $100 up to 60 days before. You could save yourself a price increase should the dollar keep tanking.
Have a great and safe holiday season!
All the best,

Watch for "Tour de Indochine" in 2008
While French Indochina is a thing of the past, there is no reason not to put some pieces back together for a bike tour. We are planning a "Tour de Indochine" at the end of 2008.
It will start in Hanoi, Vietnam and end in Vientiane, Laos. Do the whole thing or just a segment. It should be possible to join/depart in Dien Bien Phu, Odomxai or Luang Prabang for a shorter trip.
The route is made possible by the opening of the border crossing at Tay Tran near Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam. The tour will take in Hanoi, Sapa, the Tram Ton Pass, Dien Bien Phu, Luang Prabang and Vientiane as well as a host of other towns. We enter Laos in the remote Northeast. Stamina and some "Indiana Jones" traits will serve potential participants well. More details will be forthcoming in the near future.

John Fleming is 7th rider inducted into the "B2B Club"
John Fleming, of Melbourne Australia, is the latest to join the "Back To Back Club". He recently completed the Vietnam and Laos Tours back to back. Graeme Watkins, also from Melbourne (and already in the club), did as well. Congrats! You guys picked a couple challenging tours for a B2B combo. John is pictured above. His pink helmet is nothing compared to what the locals wear.
For those with the time, several of the 2008 tours facilitates joining the B2B Club. |

Rider Pics and Profiles
Some of the most visited pages on the F&A website are the "who's going" pages. That's natural. If you are thinking of going on a bike tour, you want to know who you are going with! Are they doctors? nurses? racer dudes? We are working on a system where you can not only have your picture up, but you can post and manage your own profile. It's all optional of course.
At a minimum, it should be entertaining. If you are really brave, we can tie into the U-tube video of you singing the National Anthem at the Chicago Cubs Game or maybe your recent reading at the slam poetry festival. Go for it! I reserve the right to edit anything and everything. Start thinking.
