Corsica

by on Oct.09, 2007, under Corsica Sept 20, 2008

Greetings all! I echo Sue’s sentiments regarding a WONDERFUL trip–the cycling is always great, but I do think our combination of riders made for a particularly delightful journey! Thanks to A and A for their translating skills–Kathy and I missed you in Paris, for sure! We had three days there, including the Louvre, the Loire valley, and Versailles (walked our legs off all three days, but we were in reasonable shape to start after a week chasing all of you!). Kathy found a great apartment with a view of the Eiffel Tower, and we had a great stay.

Hope you are all enjoying good fall cycling–I can’t wait to hear what Santa Claus leaves Andrew under the Christmas Tree, though I think we all have a reasonable idea as to what that might be…

You guys are the best!

More later…

Corsica Le Beast

by on Oct.09, 2007, under Corsica Sept 20, 2008

From SusanĀ
Richie opted for lounging by the pool while I jumped on the train to Corte.
Had a terrific time. . . great way to end my trip. Spent hours in the
Museum de Corsica.. Met some wonderful people-- one of them stepped into
Andrea & Andrew's shoes as my translator-- had the opportunity to immerse
myself into the culture for a couple of days-- which was the one thing I
missed on this trip as I was too busy chasing down a bunch
americans/canadians from town to town. :<)Great Pedaling, though!

Bob, Hotel Chez "Pierre" was fantastic... they went above and beyond to
accomodate... incl. transport to train and airport.

It was a treat to be in the company of such nice people, and incredibly
strong and skilled cyclists!

Tough Ride – “Giddie up”!

by on Oct.09, 2007, under Corsica Sept 20, 2008

The Beasst
The Beasst
The Beast lived up to it’s name. We saw plenty of Boar’s heads mounted on fence posts. This was probably the most experienced group that has ever been on a Far and Away tour. Two riders had done RAAM and one had done it more than once.
The weather was generally good, but it rained on the way to Zonza. That made the going very hard on an 80 mile day with 8 to 9 thousand feet of climbing. It also got cold overnight with the temp dipping to the lower 40′s.We had a great time though.I may make this thing a little tougher by adding a few miles for the leg to Chez Maddy’s.

Best,

Bob
